Below is a badly formated copy of that information. I will have entry forms
available at practice tonight for anyone who cares to fill one out and give me
a check. I will also be available at the end of beginner class
tomorrow---7:30 ish at freer--- for anyone who would like to give their entry
form to me so that they will be assured that it will get there on time---I'm
hand delivering them to the organizer this weekend.
I believe we are requesting SORF funds to help pay for travel costs and entry
fees so this will probably be another basically "free" comp---we'll probably
do the reimbursement thing again. Please think about coming and competing.
(Its okay to just go and observe, but once you get there you'll want to
dance.)

IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT ALL COMPETITORS READ THE
FOLLOWING INFORMATION VERY CAREFULLY, IN ORDER THAT NO
INADVERTENT INFRACTIONS (SUCH AS ELIGIBILITY VIOLATIONS, DRESS
CODE VIOLATIONS, AND/OR DANCING OUT OF CATEGORY) OCCUR.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to dance as a student in THIS COMPETITION, the following
criteria shall apply:
(1) Either: (a) You are currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing
a degree course (full- or
part-time)
Or: (b) You graduate(d) in 1998, but prior to graduation you competed with
your school in YCN
events
Or: (c) If only one member of a dance partnership is eligible under (a) or
(b), provided that the dance
partnerhip was formed while you both were in college and provided that you
have danced together
regularly, as a partnership, in previous YCN events on the collegiate circuit,
during the time that you
both were in college, then you may continue to dance for your school until the
second member of the
dance partnership becomes ineligible under (a) or (b).
(2) You must be 34-years-of-age or younger on December 31, 1998
(3) You may dance in only one eligible level per dance offered (Newcomer,
Beginner, Intermediate,
Advanced) plus unlimited Open-To-All events plus Team Matches.
DEFINITIONS:
NEWCOMERS: Fall 1998 is your FIRST SEMESTER OF BALLROOM DANCING, and
certainly your first semester competing. You probably will be dancing Bronze
level steps (although
you may not know this); just nothing fancy. Don't forget to ask your teacher
if you are learning
American or International style. No costumes permitted.
BEGINNERS: You may have been dancing for up to one year. At the MOST, you
began in the
Fall Semester of 1997. Any Bronze and/or Silver Syllabus steps may be danced.
You will be
invigilated. No costumes permitted.
INTERMEDIATE (Syllabus): Any steps from the Bronze, Silver and/or Gold Syllabi
may be
danced. You will be invigilated. Open material will be penalized. Costumes
permitted but not
required.
ADVANCED (Open): Not restricted to syllabus; open figures may be danced.
Costumes
encouraged but not required.
OPEN-TO-ALL: Not restricted to syllabus. Costumes optional.
If you are unfamiliar with syllabus steps, please ask your teacher (or request
step lists).
DRESS CODE
NO COSTUMES PERMITTED in the Newcomer or Beginner categories. For the Smooth
and
Standard Divisions, gentlemen should wear dark pants with a white shirt and
tie (jackets or plain
dark cardigan sweaters are optional); ladies should wear leotards or blouses
with skirts, or party or
cocktail dresses. For the Rhythm and Latin Divisions, gentlemen should wear
dark pants and a plain
white or black shirt (tie optional); ladies should wear leotards or blouses
with skirts, or party or
cocktail dresses. COSTUMES PERMITTED BUT NOT REQUIRED in the Intermediate,
Advanced, and Open-To-All categories.
