Dancing Illini Courses Start Sunday (Oct 16)

    Dear Dancers and Future Dancers,

    The Dancing Illini is offering beginner courses in Waltz & Quickstep
    and Swing & Cha-Cha, plus Continuing Cuban Salsa (Rueda) this fall.
    You don't need a partner and beginner courses are FREE the first week,
    so come to the University YMCA on Sunday, October 16 and give it a try!

    Our annual competition runs all day on Saturday, October 22 in the
    Illini Union Illini Rooms. UIUC students spectate free, others $5.
    Workshops follow on Sunday morning (experience required, see below).

    Courses:

      Beginner Waltz & Quickstep
      Sundays, 5:00-6:15pm, 5 weeks, Oct 16-Nov 13 at University YMCA
      taught by Illini DanceSport, NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

      Beginner Swing & Cha-Cha
      Sundays, 6:30-7:45pm, 5 weeks, Oct 16-Nov 13 at University YMCA
      taught by Illini DanceSport, NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

      Continuing Cuban Salsa (Rueda)
      Sundays, 8:00-9:15pm, 5 weeks, Oct 16-Nov 13 at University YMCA
      taught by Tanja & Ron, continuing students only

      Courses meet at the University YMCA's Latzer Hall (first floor),
      at Wright and Chalmers in Champaign, just west of Lincoln Hall.

      Repeat students are welcome in all courses.

    Pricing:

      There is no need to pre-register. Try classes FREE the first week.
      Your $35 membership (or $40 registration if non-UIUC) entitles you to
      one 5-week course. Additional courses in the same semester are $25.
      Prices are per person; there is no couples discount. Please be
      prepared to pay by the start of the second class (October 23).

      EARLY-BIRD SPECIAL: Save $5 on membership if you pay the first week!

      Want to get all your Dancing Illini classes for free? Volunteer some
      of your time and enthusiasm as an officer! If you are interested
      please email dancing at illinois dot edu. Elections are held in April.

    Where We Dance:

      The Regent Ballroom has dancing most Fridays, 8-11pm, $9. The music
      covers everything we teach and more, so join your DI friends at the

    Annual Competition and Workshops October 22-23:

      Our 23rd annual intercollegiate ballroom dance competition will be
      held on Saturday, October 22 with workshops on Sunday, October 23.
      Free for UIUC students (thanks to SORF support) as spectators or
      competitors (we have special events just for beginning dancers).

      Standard Track with Andrew and Michelle Tate:
        10 am to 11 am - Introduction to Viennese Waltz
        11:15 am to 12:15 pm - Intermediate International Foxtrot

      Latin Track with Ryan Evans:
        10 am to 11 am - Intermediate International Rumba
        11:15 am to 12:15 pm - Introduction to Samba

      Free for UIUC students (funded by SORF), otherwise $10 (2 for $15).
      Dance experience is required for all workshops.
