Dancing Illini Officer's Meeting September 17, 2002
310 Freer Meeting began at 8:37 pm
Dancing Illini Officers and Chairpersons present: Tanja, Jeremy,
Jeff, Lynn, Ron, Jonne', Jesse, Jen J., Jen S., Amy, Emily, Mike, Peter,
Rich
Tanja brought up information regarding the upcoming comp:
-We need to get together to stuff packets for the comp; since
weekends work best for most people we have decided to meet the Sunday
before the comp (October 13)
-Tanja has bought trophies for the 1st place winners in the A
division
-Indiana University is having a comp on October 12
-very little information available other than the date
-Tanja will keep us updated when more info becomes available
-it is too late to get SORF money; the officers allocated $250 for
this comp
Emily discussed conflicts with classes for the second 6 weeks of the
semester:
-Holly and Adrian are unable to teach the last 2-3 weeks
-Emily has been unable to contact Bruce, he may be unavailable for
the standard tech. -Tanja reminded us she is unavailable to teach on
Thursdays
-Regina will be unable to teach for us after January due to her new
job teaching ballroom
-Jeremy mentioned that we have had 14 people teach for us in the
past, perhaps we should check with them?
-Jeremy would prefer to have Hilary teach w/o Bruce rather than have
Regina teach standard tech.
-We may also be able to get Liz and her husband (she teaches for Dave
at the Regent)
-Jeff reminded us that Peter Ellis has stopped teaching intermediate
salsa, so we are the only ones offering salsa right now
-A vote was taken as to what the 5th class should be: 2 votes for
intermediate salsa, 3 votes for a combination salsa/rueda, and 6 votes for
rueda
-We have decided to offer intermediate salsa in the spring
The second six-week classes (which start Oct 15) are tentatively set
as follows:
Tuesday: 6:45-8:00 Tango/Cha-Cha taught by Tanja and Yuri?
8:30-9:45 Samba/Jive taught by Tanja and Yuri?
Wednesday: Rueda @ Regent from 9:30-10:40
Thursday: 6:45-8:00 Swing/Hustle taught by Mike and Leigh
8:30-9:45 Standard Tech taught by Bruce or Hilary or Regina?
Other possibilities for space for our classes were brought up:
Kenney Gym
New ballroom (opening in January, where Regina will teach)
Jeremy asked about marketing: where did our students hear about our
classes?
-Jen S. and Rich will tabulate the results from the registration
forms and try to get that out within a week
We have a dance scheduled for October 5 from 8:30-11:30 in the Union.
The focus of this dance will be general ballroom. We also have
space in the Union in November.
