For some of you, the end of classes may mean that it's time to forget
everything you've just learned. Don't let that happen to your dancing
moves! You can join us at the Regent Ballroom for a practice TONIGHT AND
WEDNESDAY NIGHT, 9:30-10:50pm. Both practices are free of charge. If you
need a ride either night, please contact dancing+officers@uiuc.edu or meet
in front of freer hall at 9:15 (monday) or 8:45 (wednesday). The Regent is
located at 1406 Regency Drive West in Savoy.
Monday night practices will continue at least till the end of the
semester. Hopefully we will be able to have them during the summer too,
but we need to get enough people to justify the cost! After a summer of
practicing, you'll be ready to hit the social floor with new grace and
poise. Not to mention the beginner's categories in October's Dancing
Illini Invitational. If you are interested in summer practices, please
e-mail jmtran@uiuc.edu so we can get a count. Also: we hope to hold free
mini lessons at the beginning of each practice in order to teach floor
survival skills. The basic step and one variation is all you need to have
a great time on the floor, provided you are able to make pleasant
conversation and smile at your [beautiful and charming] partner. I'll
announce the dance each week, but don't be shy about e-mailing me your
preferences.
Want to enjoy the benefits of being an officer? You'll get free classes,
have something else to put on your resume, and all your friends will envy
you! It's also one of the easiest ways to meet lots of people with whom
you can dance. We will have the following positions open for the
running:
*President
*Vice-president
*Social co-chair
*Education chair
*Public Relations chair
The elections will be held at the General Meeting on this Wednesday at
the Regent at 9pm, right before practice. If you would like to run, you
may want to think of a few qualities that would make you a good fit for
the position. For a description of each position, email jmtran@uiuc.edu.
Don't worry if you don't see a position that interests you. If you are
willing to help, we'll find a place for you!
Watch your e-mail in the next couple of days for announcements of officer
nominations.. and to see which dance we will be teaching at our FREE DANCE
LESSON at wednesday's practice.
Reminder: This coming Saturday, Tanja will being having her annual Soup
Party at 7pm at 712 Foley St. in Champaign. Fun and free food for all!
