something better than a cash prize at the salsa/swing contest

My busy weekend precludes me from going and/or competing in the salsa and
swing contest this coming weekend at the Levis Center.

I had planned to choose Urmi Gupta as my partner because I taught her some
swing and salsa as well. It would have perfect and we would had a big shot
for the 50-dollar prize. But it is not to be.

Although my joy for dancing salsa and swing is at a very high point, not
being in the contest hurts me a great deal--emotionally, that is. I wanted
some bragging rights for doing demos in swing and salsa by competiting in
the contest but not this time.

But I got an idea for the next salsa/swing contest. Here's the lowdown:

To encourage more competitiors to compete, I want the top three couples in
each dance(salsa/swing)to do a 1-minute "honor dance". An "honor dance" is
used in giant ballroom competitions by winning couples. That is, one
couple dances alone while people watch, just like in some of the lindy
circles.
