Despite getting a partner to dance with for the salsa demo that happened
Wednesday night, I still feel a little down. We and Jessica danced only
for 3 1/2 minutes on the Courtyard Cafe stage and that was it...

The end of the Regent Ballroom's so-called "salsa nights" made me say this
adage: "For me, it forces me to reconsider all of the other ballroom
dances, and don't think too much about salsa or I will get bored..."

I know greatly that the Dancing Illini holds an Open Invitational Ballroom
dance competition early November(this year: November 7). I had not been to
the Regent Ballroom the first 3 weeks into the U of I's Fall Semester
because I am still disappointed that the salsa nights at the Regent had
came to an end. I know that in the Regent's social ballroom dance they'll
have a salsa(or a mambo) and one merengue--but that's not enough for me!

You can put an end to my disappointment by being my partner for the
upcoming ballroom dance comp on Nov. 7. and experience the real joy of
dancing with me. I will probably need 12 ladies--one for each category so
it will be best for me if you know 2 or more dances. I know that there
are 12 dance
categories in the contest, and, to be very honest, here are my current
skill levels:

1. Cha-cha---intermediate
2. Salsa/Mambo--intermediate/advanced
3. Nightclub 2-step--beginner/intermediate
4. Hustle--intermediate
5. West Coast Swing--beginner
6. Rumba--beginner/intermediate
7. Samba--beginner/intermediate
8. Swing/Jive--beginner/intermediate
9. Foxtrot--beginner/intermediate
10.Quickstep--beginner/intermediate
11.Waltz--beginner/intermediate
12.Tango--beginner/intermediate

I am also aware of two new categories: Novice/Veteran Waltz and
Novice/Veteran Cha-Cha. I am a veteran in both dances.

I've been to the Regent social ballroom dances over 30 times, and danced
to new partners, so it might help me in the Jack-and-Jill part of the
contest.

I can also lead only beginning level moves if I've been asked to do so.
I had more dance training in International style, but if I feel queasy, I
can always go back to the American style figures.
I had so many commitments on the first weeks on Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday that I was unable to attend the Regent Dancing Illini practices
and also all of the excitement of the ballroom social dances.
But expect to see me more at the Regent the few following weeks.

Also...

This may be my last year as a student of the U. of I. So please take
advantage of this message. Who knows? Someday, I might take first place
and enjoy all the delight and felicity of winning that....

(So much for the joy of dancing)
