Hey kids,

For those new to the list, visit the UIUC Swing Society web page at
http://www-ncce.ceg.uiuc.edu/~guinney/swing.html for calendar or good
general swing info.

*Channel 3 will be at Legends next Tuesday covering the new swing
craze. Wear your best, because you may just find yourself on TV.
They'll be airing the segment on the following Sunday morning (exact
time unknown). I'll post details on the web site when I get them.

Two events going on this next couple weeks you don't want to miss:
1) Thurs, July 30th. Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers at the
Blind Pig. Lavay Smith and the RHSL are a San Francisco based swing
band. While living in SF, I had the pleasure of seeing them play many
times, and consider them among my favorite bands. Although this is
Lavay Smith's first time on the road, she has been around since late 80s
and is responsible for much of the swing revival in SF. This is a rare
event you don't want to miss.

2) Sat, Aug 1, 9:00 pm, Beckman Quad Swing #2. This is an informal
(i.e. non university sanctioned) event where we bring out a boom box and
play the best of swing. The first Beckman Quad Swing was a great
success. Not only did we not have the university police break it up,
but we had a great turn out with dancing well into the early morning.
For those of you tired of wooden or tiled dance floors, you'll have your
choice of brick, cement, grass, or even water to dance in/on. I
recommend you bring your own drinking water; you'll need it. This is,
of course, absolutely free.

swingingly yours,
justin
