When not traveling, The Ron Smolen Orchestra is currently the house band at
the Scandinavian Club in Arlington Heights, Illinois. We were also the house
band for 5 years at the International Club in Chicago, Illinois, and also were
the house band for 10 years (performing twice weekly) at Knickers Restaurant
in Des Plaines, Illinois. On the Road, the Orchestra was the house band at the
French Lick Resort, French Lick Springs, Indiana for over 5 years performing
for every Major Holiday Weekend and countless private affairs.
The Orchestra's library is designed to play for Ballroom Dancing one night,
and for a Jazz Club Concert the next. We can transform any event into New
Years' Eve at the Waldorf in the memorable sweet sound of Guy Lombardo, and
also provide plenty of Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller for those
who prefer to Swing a little. And, since we perform for all ages, we carry
an ample amount of classic "POP" tunes ranging from
the 50's and "Rock Around The Clock " to the 90's and "Achy Breaky Heart ".
Our ten (10) piece touring Orchestra consists of... 4 saxophones, 2
trumpets, 1 trombone, bass, drum and piano. Vocals are
provided by Ron and several members of the Orchestra. The Orchestra regularly
travels by van and cars, but on several occasions we have been flown and
bussed to our destination by clients.
For our local accounts, we also offer Combos, Dixieland Bands and our 17 piece
Big Band. These bands are available to out of town clients only as part of a
multiple date performance package.
