I just saw an ad in the Daily Illini for "Tuesday... Swing" at Legends,
522 E. Green (North side of Green, between 5th and 6th Streets).
There is no cover charge.
I stopped by Legends today to ask about this Tuesday night Swing dance.
Legends is a nice place, reminding me of Jillian's (on South Neil St). The
bartender told me that on Tuesday nights they hire a DJ who plays Swing
music (I am guessing that it is a variety of tempos, but mostly suitable
what we would call East Coast Swing/Jitterbug and maybe some west coast
swing... again, just a guess). The dance floor is tile, just like at
Chester Street, and measures easily 15' x 25' with more room to overflow if
necessary - good for lots of couples.
Swing music and dancing is very popular among college students on the west
coast right now. It looks like it's finally come to C-U. Anyway, it's
close, it's free... it sounds like it's worth checking out. My only
concern is that since it's a campus bar, it might get crowded. But as
dancers, we just translate that into "go early."
