These large country events are consistently offering night-long
opportunites to swing (and hustle), you really should check them out!
Among other things, a new trend I observed is the incorporation of the
salsa habit of letting go of your partner to 'play' with syncopations in
west coast swing, east coast swing and nightclub cha cha. While I'm not
sure I love this, it does give you a chance to play with the music have
fun and work on your own footwork without being concerned about the lead.
In fact the swing adv. Jack and Jill was a 3-song competition, and the
competitors were forbidden to touch their partners during the last song...
all the while conveying the true spirit of West Coast. This was
a technique employed by Robert Cordoba in his workshops. (he's a great
instructor, a very personable guy, sounds a lot like Enio... overall, a
dreamy addition to my Cha cha with the stars collection!)
:-)
Also, word has it that the 'pros' are looking forward to learning/
performing rueda at the national swing comp coming soon! Word also has it
that the yearly MUSIC competition was a great time as well.
Ya'll missed out! (how was the Ohio Star?)
