Hello all:

I thought all of you might want to know about this event. It's a charity
benefit dance for an organization called the Khoury League. The details:

Location: St. Louis Casa Loma Ballroom
3354 Iowa Avenue
(314) 664-8000

Date and time: Sunday, August 17, 4 PM-8 PM
Doors open at 3 PM

Cost: $7

Featured ensemble: The Blue Knights, a 12-piece big band; very good

Directions (roughly):

1. From Urbana to the edge of St. Louis, take either:

a. I-57 South to I-70 West. At the I-55/I-70 exit, go south/west (I can't
recall which it is; anyway, in the direction of St. Louis)

b. I-72 West to I-55 South, which merges into I-55/I-70 (running
south/west)

c. On I-55/I-70, you'll eventually cross the River and see the Arch on
your right.

2. In St. Louis city (the trickier part):

a. Immediately after crossing the River, exit on to I-44/55 South (at
least I think you can do this)

b. A short while later, the highway splits into two highways, I-44 and
I-55. Either highway will work for getting to Casa Loma eventually.

c. If you take I-55 (it runs south):

- Take the Arsenal Street exit (I think it's Exit 206C).

- Turn right onto Arsenal, and go for about 6 blocks to Jefferson Avenue.

- Turn left onto Jefferson, and go about 3 blocks or so to Cherokee.

- Turn right onto Cherokee, and go for about 3 blocks to Iowa. You'll
see the Casa Loma Ballroom just north of Cherokee, on Iowa.

d. If you take I-44 (it runs west):

- Take the Jefferson Avenue exit (no exit number at hand; sorry)

- Turn left onto Jefferson. Go south for a great many (15-16) blocks.

- You will eventually see Utah Street, which has a stop light. The next
light is where you should turn right, Cherokee Street.

- Turn right onto Cherokee, and go for about 3 blocks to Iowa. You'll see
the Casa Loma Ballroom just north of Cherokee, on Iowa.

Parking:

1. The main parking lot right across from the ballroom costs $2.

2. There's another parking lot behind (just west of) the main parking
lot. It doesn't have a security guard patrolling it, but the guard who
watches the main lot also keeps an eye on things back there too (the owner
told me this). This second lot is free, I believe.

3. If you arrive early enough, you might be able to find reasonably close
street parking.

4. If you have a "Club" or some other security device for your car,
please bring it, because Casa Loma isn't in the nicest neighborhood.

I apologize for the very short notice, but I only found out the exact
hours yesterday. Anyway, I thought it might make a nice day trip for
dancing, for anyone who might be interested.

Best wishes,
