--Proposal for the 9th Annual Dancing Illini Invitational Dance Competition

The annual Dancing Illini Invitational Dance Competition has been described as "one of the most popular collegiate dance competitions in the upper Midwest." We propose that the rules, format, schedule and music used in the 1996 DI Invitational (the 1996 comp schedule is downloadable from <http://www.uiuc.edu/ro/dancing/comp/comp_96/> ) be used again for the 1997 DI Invitational, except:
a. Try to fit in Rookie/Vet categories for Waltz and for Swing.
b. Spend less money by: 1) continuing last year's practice of using our own sound system rather than renting one, 2) re-using the clipboards and other supplies which were purchased in 1996 under the "Miscellaneous" category. 3) purchasing less expensive awards than last year, and 4) taking the volunteers to lunch at (for example) the St. Louis Bread Co. instead of buying a catered lunch in the Union. Take advantage of their service option where you can take one of their menus and have your volunteers choose what they want to eat ahead of time. A runner can place the order at 10am so it will be ready when you arrive at noon (no waiting in line).
