Hello Everybody!

Now that the semester is in full swing, and all our beginners have
subscribed to the list, I will explain its purpose:

This list is intended generally for dance-related discussion, but
off-topic threads do get started occasionally; this list is unmoderated.

We ask that you prefix any message you send to this list with one of three
identifiers:

HELP: This is for any message requesting help.
INV: This is for any invitation (dance related or not) in which you
wish to invite the whole club.
SOC: This is a general catch-all category.

EXAMPLES:

HELP: Need ride to Regent this Friday!
SOC: Did you hear what Scott did last night?
HELP: Where can I buy good, cheap dance shoes?
INV: Afterhours this Friday after the Regent dance!
SOC: The r.a.d. dance shoes FAQ

You get the idea. Please try to make the title of your message specific,
so people can decide whether it pertains to them before reading.

POLICY REGARDING CHAIN LETTERS:

Chain letters are _always_ a bad idea. A chain letter is _any_ email
message which asks you to forward it to as many people as possible.
Chain letters which ask for money are _illegal_ under federal fraud
laws. Chain letters which don't ask for money are not illegal, but are
still considered bad netiquette. At the least, you will get flamed for
forwarding them to the list; at the worst, somebody will appoint
him/herself net.cop and try to get your account revoked.

POLICY REGARDING FLAMES:

A flame is a nasty, insulting reply to somebody else's post. If you
_must_ flame somebody, please have the courtesy to do so privately; not
all 150+ members of this list are interested in reading a dirty little
flamewar.

Thanks, and remember to practice safe posting!
