Hi everyone:

First off, let me introduce myself. My name is George Yeh, and I'm with
the Ballroom Dance Club at Washington University. Several of us have gone
to the workshops at C-U in the last few months, and we've enjoyed them a
great deal and you've all been very hospitable and welcoming to us.
Apologizing for the very short notice of this announcement, we would like
to return the favor here in St. Louis.

The major local dance venue, the St. Louis Casa Loma Ballroom, is hosting
a "Latin Dance Extravaganza" on Saturday, Sept. 28. Two bands will be
playing, El Caribe Tropical from St. Louis and Del Alma from Columbia, MO.
Complimentary lessons are at 8 PM, and the bands will play from 9 PM-1 AM.
Admission is $10. Our organization will be having a group trip there that
night, and we'd like to invite you along.

In a separate arrangement, several Dancing Illini have graciously
volunteered to caravan down here to give a series of introductory
workshops for our group on that same Saturday in the morning and
afternoon. The workshops are in:

1. Nightclub Two-Step, 9:30 AM-10:30 AM
2. West Coast Swing, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM

(lunch break)

3. Hustle, 1:30-3:30 PM

If any of you would like to drive on down for the workshops in addition to
the Latin night, you're more than welcome, of course. The charge for all
three will be $5, and for only the afternoon workshop, $2. The lessons
will be held in Holmes Lounge, Ridgely Hall, on the Wash. U. campus. To
locate Holmes Lounge on the Campus map, the WWW site is:

http://library.wustl.edu/~spec/archives/tour/

The map is oriented such that the West-East axis runs up and down (oops).
Brookings Quadrangle is on the eastern part of campus (therefore the lower
part of the map). Ridgely Hall is on the western side of Brookings Quad,
and is thus the upper edge of the Quad on the map (Building #66). Holmes
Lounge is in the center of the edge, in a direct line westward from
Brookings Arch at the eastern entrance to campus. Tanja Hodges has maps
on how to get to St. Louis, Wash. U., and Casa Loma, so you can contact
her regarding that.

If anyone wants to come to St. Louis on Friday night, the 27th, Casa Loma
has their semi-regular Friday night ballroom session, with a 4 or 5-piece
live band, from 9 PM to 12 midnight, with complementary lessons at 8 PM.
Admission for ballroom Fridays is $6. I will arrive at Casa Loma late
that night (sometime after 10:30 PM) to meet anyone who has traveled that
night and to point them towards housing for the evening. The Casa Loma
dress code is no jeans and no sneakers, at all times.

If you want to come just for the Latin night, please arrive at Holmes
Lounge on Saturday afternoon sometime between 3:00-3:30 PM (when the
lessons end). (If you want to come earlier and check out some sights in
St. Louis before meeting us, I highly recommend the Missouri Botanical
Garden, and also the St. Louis Art Museum. I can forward more info if
desired.)

If anyone is interested in coming down here for that weekend, please let
me know, and tell me how many nights you wish to stay, cohorts you'd
prefer to room with, people you'd prefer to room with here (if you know
anyone here), etc.. Also leave me your phone numbers in case I have to
resort to them as the weekend nears. I will keep interested people
informed as to developments over the week (I'll be able to focus better on
them after 1 PM Wednesday, when I'm done with my research presentation).

Thanks,

George Yeh
