From the newsgroup rec.art.dance, support for what we all already
recognize as a challenging sport and a good social outing, from as
mentioned below, an unexpected source....

Subject: An Olympic Ballroom Dancing defense

>From (believe it or not) the roller-hockey-intl mailing list, a post
(and a *good* one) in support of ballroom dancing in the olympics ...

If you think hockey is tough, get your best goalie to try doing
those splits in time to music moving backwards on four inch spike
heels on a slippery floor wearing 45 pounds of gauzy, filmy, flowing
chiffon lined with feathers in a blinding spotlight in total graceful
control before a few thousand knowledgeable observers...

It ain't easy and it takes every bit as much practice, training,
dedication and commitment to make it in the "sport" of ball room
dancing as it does anything else. How would you define Ice
dancing or figure skating? Is it a sport just because it's done on
ice? How peculiar and narrow your parameters are. It may not fit
your definition but give others the respect you expect. Variety IS
the spice of life.

Wish I could forward this to everyone that thinks ballroom
dancing is for "sissys"....
Think we should illuminate them on the worthiness of using suede
leather on a slippery floor...? NAH...:-)
