Hi Everybody!

On Wednesday, July 10 at 9:00 pm in the Opera Rehearsal Room, Krannert
Center, we will have our Dancing Illini July general meeting. After 1 hour
of regular dance practice, we'll turn the music off and the meeting will
convene.

The agenda is as follows:

1. Election for co-secretary, co-competition chairpersons and
co-public relations chairperson:
Our nominees are:
Emily Bergner for co-secretary
Jehan Tsai and Joyce Lee for co-competition chairpersons, and
Yahna Awazu for co-public relations chairperson.

2. Officer reports.

3. Propose adding a Workshop Chairperson position to our Constitution
Propose and vote on an update to our Bylaws.

4. Vote on a summer budget.

5. Open discussion

Pizza and soda will be provided afterwards, in the lounge.

In "Article I - Membership and Dues," change:

published announcement. The first half hour of all officers' meetings
shall be open to members who wish to present an issue or concern to
the officers and chairpersons. To attend, members must contact one or
more officers or chairpersons, one or more days in advance of the
officers' meeting, and inform the officer(s) or chairperson(s) that
they will be present.

Article II - Class Policies

A. Enrollment in a class is conditional upon payment of the class fee.
Payment is due
* by the end of the 4th meeting for bi- weekly classes that are 8 or
more weeks long;
* by the end of the 2nd meeting for bi-weekly classes that are less
than 8 weeks long and weekly classes that are 8 or more weeks
long;
* by the end of the 1st meeting for weekly classes that are under 8
weeks long.
B. Class fees will not be refunded. Persons should not pay until they
are certain that they wish to enroll in the class.
C.
* University of Illinois students repeating the Beginner class
receive a $5 discount.
* Dancing Illini members previously or simultaneously enrolled in
any Intermediate or Advanced level class may attend the Beginner
Class at no charge to help those enrolled in the Beginner Class,
subject to the approval of the instructor.
* Subject to the approval of the Beginner Class instructor, Dancing
Illini members previously or simultaneously enrolled in any
Intermediate or Advanced level class who attend a minimum of 75%
of Beginner Class A and/or B meetings and keep separate logs of
their attendance, may exchange each completed log for a $15 dance
scholarship. Attendance logs must be dated and initialed by the
instructor after each class meeting attended. Scholarships may be
applied towards Dancing Illini dues and/or class fees.
* Dancing Illini members may repeat an Intermediate class at no
charge if they have already taken that particular Intermediate
class before.

Article II - Course Policies

A. Enrollment in a Dancing Illini course is conditional upon:

membership dues, or a
registered participant fee.

B. Payment is due:
* by the end of the 1st class for courses meeting once per week for
fewer than 8 weeks,
* by the end of the 2nd class for courses meeting twice per week for
fewer than 8 weeks, and
* by the end of the 2nd class for courses meeting once per week for
8 or more weeks.

C. Course fees are not refundable. Be certain that you wish to enroll
in the course before paying for it.

D. The following Beginner Dance Program course fee schedule will be used
on all flyers and advertisements:

$20 for students/faculty/staff (includes $5 membership dues)
$25 for non- students/faculty/staff
(includes $10 registered participant fees)
$15 for existing DI members and existing registered participants
Take both beginner courses for only an additional $5

The following Intermediate Dance Program course fee schedule will be used
on all flyers and advertisements:

$25 for students/faculty/staff (includes $5 membership dues)
$30 for non- students/faculty/staff
(includes $10 registered participant fees)
$20 for existing DI members and existing registered participants
Take both intermediate courses for only an additional $5

DI Short Course Dance Program course fee schedules will be determined by
the Education Chairperson, and will follow the above format on all flyers
and advertisements.

E. Special Policies

* Dancing Illini members _repeating_Beginner_A_and/or_B_ (but not
simultaneously enrolled in any DI Intermediate Dance Program course) shall
receive a $5 discount per course they repeat.

* Dancing Illini members currently enrolled in any DI Intermediate Dance
Program course but wishing to simultaneously attend Beginner A and/or B
_for_the_first_time_ may enroll in Beginner A and/or B for only an
additional $5 per course.

* Subject to the approval of the instructor (ie., you may be asked to sit
out if class attendance is not balanced and you are of the majority sex)
Dancing Illini members who:
a) are graduates of Beginner A and B (or their equivalent), _and_
b) have enrolled in any DI Intermediate Dance Program course
(previously or simultaneously);
may attend Beginner A and/or B at no charge to help those enrolled in
Beginner A and/or B.

* Subject to the approval of the Beginner A and/or B instructor (ie., you
may be asked to sit out if class attendance is not balanced and you are of
the majority sex), Dancing Illini members who:
a) are graduates of Beginner A and B (or their equivalent), _and_
b) have enrolled in any DI Intermediate Dance Program course
(previously or simultaneously);
who attend a minimum of 6 Beginner A and/or B class meetings and keep a log
of their attendance, may exchange each completed log for a $2/class meeting
dance scholarship. Attendance logs must be dated and initialed by the
instructor after each class meeting attended. The Treasurer will keep a
record of each member's scholarships. This benefit is subject to the
availability of DI funds.

* Subject to the approval of the intermediate course instructor (ie., you
may be asked to sit out if class attendance is not balanced and you are of
the majority sex), Dancing Illini members who are graduates of a particular
DI Intermediate Dance Program course (or its equivalent), may attend that
particular DI Intermediate Dance Program course again at no charge, to help
those enrolled in that particular DI Intermediate Dance Program course.

DI Curriculum Plan

The goals of this plan are to:
Provide a focused curriculum plan, subject to teacher availability.
Utilize all available resources: DI, UIUC, Regent Ballroom, etc.
Provide a transition between the DI beginner and the DI intermediate
level courses.
Provide a transition between the DI courses and the Regent courses.
Provide a well thought out, long term, semi-stable curriculum to
attract new members, promote member retention, and to reduce the
advertising burden.

Encourage instructors to expand their teaching proficiency and grow in
their professionalism.

Instructors-in-training will be encouraged to:
Attend DI Teacher Training program workshops.
Become helpers in Beginner A and B,
Become co-instructors or assistants,
Attend DI Teacher Training program workshops.
Teach "quickie" lessons
Teach seminars

Instructors will be encouraged to:
Attend DI Teacher Training program workshops.
Arrange for co-instructors or regular teaching
assistants instead of demonstrating with class members.
Utilize opposite-sex co-instructors or assistants
Allow time at the end of each class period for open
dancing and questions.
Create an atmosphere of fun and excitement in class.
Actively promote new member recruitment and involvement
in club events and activities.

In "Article V - Tutor Program," change:

Section 4 - Examination Fees

The Dancing Illini will reimburse successful applicants for the cost
of the test which they pass. Applicants who do not pass the
examination must pay for it.

The Dancing Illini will reimburse tutors for the cost of the examination
which they pass. Applicants who do not pass the examination will not have
their examination fee reimbursed.
In general, a "tutor preparation course" will be conducted to help
prepare applicants for the examination. The Dancing Illini will reimburse
tutors up to $40 for the cost of the tutor preparation course immediately
preceding the examination which they pass. Applicants who do not pass the
examination will not have their tutor preparation course fee reimbursed.
This benefit is subject to the availability of DI funds.

Article VI - Subsidy for Professional Lessons

In order to make professional dance lessons more affordable to its
members, the DI will contribute $5.00 per lesson to DI members who
take a private lesson from a professional dance instructor, up to a
maximum of three lessons per semester per member. The subsidy may be
obtained by presenting a receipt for the lesson to the Treasurer.

Article VI - Rebates for Private Lessons

A. In order to encourage pairs of members to take their first private
dance lesson with a DI tutor, the Dancing Illini will provide a
"one-time-per-member" free-tutor-lesson-coupon to members.

The free-tutor-lesson-coupon may be presented by two members as full
payment for a one hour private dance lesson with a DI tutor.

To qualify for the free-tutor-lesson, the following information must
appear on the coupon:
the location, date and time of the lesson,
the names of each of the two members participating in the lesson, and
the signature of the DI tutor teaching the lesson.

This is a "one-time-per-member" benefit. A member's name may only
appear once on any free-tutor-lesson-coupon, *ever*.

The DI Treasurer will keep all free-tutor-lesson-coupons which are
redeemed, as a record of which members have taken their
"one-time-per-member" free-tutor-lesson-coupon benefit.

This benefit may not be combined with any other rebate program.

This benefit is subject to the availability of DI funds.

B. In order to encourage pairs of members to take their first private
dance lesson with a dance professional, the Dancing Illini will provide
a "one-time-per-member" private lesson rebate coupon to members who:
a) are graduates of Beginner A and/or B, _or_
b) have enrolled in any DI Intermediate Dance Program course
(previously or simultaneously).

The face value of the professional-lesson-rebate-coupon will depend
on the number of members participating in the lesson, according to
the following schedule:
50% discount for a private lesson taken by 2 members, not to exceed $25.
100% discount for a private lesson taken by 4 members, not to exceed $50.

To qualify for the rebate, the following information must appear
on the coupon:
the location, date and time of the lesson,
the name of each of the two or four members participating
in the lesson, and
the signature of the dance professional teaching the lesson.

This is a "one-time-per-member" benefit. A member's name may only
appear once on any professional-lesson-rebate-coupon, *ever*.

Members may redeem a professional-lesson-rebate-coupon for a refund
or a dance scholarship.

The DI Treasurer will keep all professional-lesson-rebate-coupons
which are redeemed, as a record of which members have taken their
"one-time-per-member" coupon benefit.

This benefit may not be combined with any other rebate program.

C. In order to make private dance lessons with a dance professional more
affordable to its members, the DI will give a $5.00 per lesson rebate
to any DI member who takes a private lesson from a professional dance
instructor, up to a maximum of three lessons per semester per member.
The rebate may be obtained by presenting a receipt for the lesson to
the Treasurer.

In "Article VII - Video Library,"

$20 mandatory** cash deposit per video tape borrowed.

** The dance proficiency of DI advisors, coaches, officers, instructors and
tutors directly affects the level of dancing in the club. To encourage DI
advisors, coaches, officers, instructors and tutors to increase their own
dance proficiency, each advisor, coach, officer, instructor and tutor may
borrow up to 2 videotapes per week without leaving a deposit.
