The next milonga at the Phillips Recreation Center (505 W Stoughton,
Urbana) will be Saturday February 18 from 9:30 PM - 1 AM. The milonga
music program will consist of classic tangos from the Golden Age
(first 2.5 hr) and some of the best tango music for dancing since the
Golden Age (last 1 hr). Admission is $5.
Prior to the milonga, from 7:15 - 9:30 PM, Ron & Susana will teach a
Milonguero Tango Crash Course. The cost is $10.
This workshop will present the fundamentals of the close embrace
milonguero style tango that is danced in the milongas of Buenos Aires
- technique of partner connection, musicality, and the philosophy of
navigation for crowded floors.
This workshop is intended for several types of dancers:
- Newcomers to tango
- Those with some experience dancing in the milonguero style but
desiring a refresher course
- Those who dance tango in open embrace who would like to learn the
delicious close embrace style danced in the nigth clubs of downtown
Buenos Aires.
Depending upon your tango background, this workshop will prepare you
(and is recommended) for our upcoming tango courses at the Phillips
Center:
(1) Tango 2 - The Milonguero Cross
Wednesdays Feb 22 - Mar 15 8:30-10 PM $30
- The cruzada and its various entry possibilities in milonguero style
tango, including the ocho cortado, within the context of the
musicality of tango, milonga and vals.
- Pre-requisite: Tango 1 - 'Foundations of Tango' or the 'Milonguero
Tango Crash Course'
(2) Tango 3B - Forward Ocho Variations
Mondays Feb 20 - Mar 13 8:30-10 PM $30
- Pivoting forward ochos and advanced ochos cortados in close embrace,
within the context of the musicality of tango, milonga and vals.
- Pre-requisite: Tango 2 - 'The Milonguero Cross' or the 'Milonguero
Tango Crash Course' (for dancers who have mastered the intermediate
level in the open embrace style of tango)
