Maria Castello (Buenos Aires) and Jacques Saint-Cyr (Montreal) are
once again returning to Champaign-Urbana to please us with their great
tango performances. This time they are bringing their collaborating
pianist Victor Simon from Buenos Aires to present their production 'It
takes 3 to Tango', which integrates oral history, music and dance. The
program takes the audience through the history of this cultural
phenomenon, from candombe, milonga, and canyengue through the Golden
Age and on to the modern tango of Piazzolla. The different sections
are linked by a theatrical presentation in which musicians and dancers
become the characters that witness the evolution of Tango. The
musicians' participation varies from interpreting the music to
accompanying the dance to dancing while playing.
The Tango Society of Central Illinois is pleased to host the tango
show "It takes 3 to Tango" on Saturday October 22 at the Phillips
Recreation Center, 505 W Stoughton, Urbana, in conjunction with tango
workshops and a milonga.
Complete details on the performers' backgrounds are available on our website:
