On Saturday Oct 14, the Tango Society of Central Illinois will hold its
monthly milonga (Argentine tango social dance) at the Phillips Recreation
Center. The milonga is from 8:30-11:30 PM and is preceded (7:30-8:30 PM) by
an introductory workshop in milonga, given by visiting instructor Federico
Costantino from Buenos Aires, who is now residing and teaching tango in
Chicago.

The dance 'milonga' is an early, livelier form of Argentine tango (i.e.,
danced to faster music, more accompanying body movements). There is overlap
between the steps used in milonga and salon tango (the usual social Argentine
tango). At a social dance, usually about 20-25% of the dances are milongas.

Federico has performed in Argentine tango in numerous productions, including
the movie 'Pequen~os Milagros' and theatrical productions of El Calendario
and La Espera. He won 1st place in Aregntine tango at the Harvest Moon
ballroom competition in 1999. He has also choreographed for a theatrical
company. He has taught tango at the Cultural Center in Buenos Aires for 2
years and has been teaching tango in Chicago for 6 months.

Admission to the workshop is $8 and includes admission to the milonga.
Admission to milonga only is $3. The Phillips Recreation Center is at the
corner of Springfield and McCullough in Urbana. The entrance and parking lot
are around the corner on Stoughton.

If there is enough demand, it may be possible to have private lessons with
Federico on Sunday Oct 15. If you are interested, please contact me by e-mail
or at 328-1311.

The introductory workshop in milonga is a prelude to a workshop on milonga
Federico is giving at TangoSentido in Chicago next weekend (Sun Oct 22).
(There will also be a tango party after the workshops.) Details on these
events will be available at the dance.
