Supported operating systems

Currently, VMD may be compiled on the following operating systems (the corresponding value for <OSTYPE> for the configure script is given in parentheses):

• IRIX 4.0.X (IRIX4), recommended to have version 4.0.5 or later.
• IRIX 5.X (IRIX5) or IRIX 6.X (use IRIX5 for both cases).
• HP-UX 9.X (HPUX9), for version 9.01 or later. Compilation for HP-UX requires use of the NPGL library from Portable Graphics, Inc., which provides a port of the GL library for use on HP workstations.

Not all opiontal components are available for all architectures. Table 1 describes which optional components may be used for each supported architecture. A dash indicates that the option is not available, while the word `yes' indicates that the option is allowed.
