Ok.. If somebody else runs into the same issue, here is the solution ...

http://charm.cs.illinois.edu/manuals/html/charm++/24.html

The CkLoop library is not build automatically by the charm++ build
script ... Once the additional make is run as described, the NAMD CVS
compiles fine. NAMD 2.10 does not require this.
