charmrun + NAMD on dual quad-core intel procs

Hi,
We want to test out charmrun/NAMD on a new dual quad-core intel node (8
procs). I have two questions:

1) Will the following command:
        charmrun namd2 +p8 test.conf
work if we wanted to use just one node
OR there is a better commandline option to use 8 cores efficiently?

2) Which charmrun/namd2 binary for linux (as there are many available) is best
suited for such a node?
