There is a seed option in namd to choose the first "random" number yourself;
it's described here:
http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Research/namd/2.6b1/ug/node25.html#SECTION00083300000
000000000

As for where they come from, the number chosen by NAMD as the seed value is
just the Unix time (measured in seconds from 1970, I believe). This is a
very common method for generating random numbers. But it's also why if you
have simulations starting at the same time, you get the same seed.

Subject: namd-l: same random numbers??

Hi,
I am running a simulation for 100 times on 100 independent CPUs with a qsub
command.
I am trying to get some statistics. When I look at the random number
generator I found that same random numbers are generated many times which
gives me same output result. The numbers attached in text file. So my
question is that why I am getting same random numbers many times and is
there anyway I can get rid of this problem?
Thanks
