Namd on Mac os X

Question with Namd.
I am using a MAC OS X and going through the tutorial. On page 8 of the tutorial, I typed in nedit
to open the text editor, however, the terminal said this command was not found. When typing in vi,
it recognized this text editor program. Do Macs have a preference for which text editor to use? If
so, which one?

After saving the ubq.pgn file in the vi text editor, the terminal window did not recognize
">vmdtext -e ubq.pgn." This command was not found. The tutorial suggested to use nedit, but that
didn't work for me. Should I type in another command?

Also, does using vi affect the vmdtext command?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and please email me back.

Maria
