Display options

The ``Display Options'' choice under the ``View'' menu brings up a panel allowing you to change display settings in JMV.

• Lights:
  The JMV scene has 4 built in lights: A light coming from the front, one from the back, one from the top, and one from the bottom. The default setting is that the front light is on, and all others are off. These lights may be turned on and off in the Display Options. The Display Options panel displays 4 checkboxes, with labels ``Upper light'', ``Lower light'', ``Front light'', and ``Back light''. If the checkbox in front of the label is checked, then the light in the scene is on. Any combination of the lights may be selected. If all lights are off, the scene will appear blank.

• Sphere resolution:
  You can change the resolution of the spheres in JMV, making spheres appear smoother or rougher. Decreasing the resolution of the spheres will make the scene move faster in rotation, but will make the molecule look less sharp. Increasing the resolution of the spheres will make the spheres appear smoother, but can make the molecule move more slowly. This setting only affects representations that draw spheres, which currently are VDW, CPK, and Licorice. The resolution has a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 30. The default is set to 8.

• Depth cueing:
  JMV allows you to add depth cueing, which is a ``fog'' that makes objects in the distance darker. This gives the scene a better sense of depth. Select the checkbox labelled ``Depth cueing'' to activate depth cueing.
