Installing Java

JMV requires the Java Plug-In, which is included in the Java Runtime Environment, version 1.3 or higher. Visit http://java.sun.com/j2se/ to get the latest version of the JRE. If you do not have the Java Plug-In installed when you try to run JMV from a browser, it may prompt you to download it, or bring you to the download page. You must have administrative privileges on your machine when installing the JRE in order for the Java Plug In to be recognized by browsers.

These instructions are for downloading JRE version 1.4, which contains the Java Plug-In, version 1.4. We will try to keep these instructions up to date with the most recent releases of the JRE, but be aware that more recent versions may be available.
